PSI’s production Studio

Growing pains

In 2022, Planned Systems International (PSI) was at a crossroads.

Within two years they tripled in size via three major acquisitions, going from a company of 500 employees to 1,500. Naturally, this is cause for celebration, but anyone who understands growth will tell you that when you expand your needs expand at scale. PSI had a problem—they were now competing in the big leagues and needed to produce marketing content that measured up, but their studio was inadequate.

At the time, the in-house videos were being filmed in a conference room that had two main problems:

One, production was constantly overpowered and interrupted by the sound of construction and traffic. To make matters worse, the sound would leak in from the surrounding rooms due to the hollow walls and drop ceilings.

Two, since it was a conference room equipment could not be left in place—meaning ample time had to be dedicated before and after production to set up and tear down.

If there was a dedicated studio, there would be fewer barriers to creating content. So as the video production lead, I drafted up an ideal studio utilizing a room that had been abandoned since the pandemic.
